We started as me, and then there were more, and now it's just me again.

I'm compelled to make music that is calm, organic, and comes from a place of honesty. We're constantly harassed by hyperactive, overproduced, corporate-sponsored music encouraging us to buy, party, and then buy more. In this climate, it can feel revolutionary to sing a simple, beautiful song.

Some of these songs emerged organically from dreams and paintings and things wise people said. Some took years and sifting through many painful thoughts and memories to distill. And some were thoughts and feelings that just kept bothering me until I trapped them in a song.

The Rock Shop, Brooklyn, fall 2014. Playing with my sister Marianna, my cousin Anna Maria, and fellow songwriter David Greenberg as "Ana Rose and the Unnamed Sprits." It was great to be in a band!
